An independent, collaborative and sourced encyclopedia of every prison facility in France (mainland and overseas): remand prisons (maisons d'arrêt), detention centres, high-security prisons, juvenile facilities, semi-liberty centres, secure hospital units and probation services.

What you will find

• Interactive map — switch to the overcrowding view and press ▶ to watch occupancy rates evolve month by month.
• Monthly figures — population, capacity, largest increases and most overcrowded facilities, from the official monthly statistics (imported automatically).
• Statistics and a page for every facility with its history (including inspection visits by the CGLPL, the French prison inspectorate).
• Open data — CSV, GeoJSON and JSON downloads.

How it works

Every figure comes from a public source shown on the page. Anyone can suggest a correction with a source; moderators review every change. The site never publishes security-sensitive information or personal data about inmates or staff. It is not an official government website.

The interface can be switched to English with the « EN » button at the top of the page; facility pages are in French.
